NEET Aspirant Dies by Suicide After Exam Cancellation Sparks Nationwide Concern

: A 23-year-old NEET aspirant from Rajasthan died by suicide after the NEET-UG 2026 examination was cancelled on May 12 following a paper leak. The incident has triggered concerns as multiple aspirants across India face distress. The government has rescheduled the exam for June 21 and announced plans to shift NEET online from 2027, amid rising controversy and grief.

A 23-year-old NEET-UG 2026 aspirant, Pradeep from Rajasthan’s Sikar district, died by suicide on Friday following the cancellation of the medical entrance examination on May 12 due to an alleged paper leak. The incident has intensified concerns over the mental health impact of examination disruptions on students across the country.

According to family members, Pradeep had been preparing in Sikar for three years with the aim of securing a score above 650 marks to pursue a career in medicine. The family stated that they had sold agricultural land to finance his coaching expenses, and the sudden cancellation of the examination deeply affected him.

Reports indicate that Pradeep is among several aspirants whose deaths have been linked by families to the fallout from the examination cancellation. Similar cases have been reported involving Anshika Pandey in Delhi, along with other students from Uttar Pradesh and Bengaluru, as the academic community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the disruption.

In response to the crisis, authorities have rescheduled the NEET-UG 2026 examination for June 21. Officials have also announced plans to transition the examination to an online format starting in 2027, aiming to prevent future irregularities and improve transparency in the testing process.
